WJLA gets 4:00 p.m. news in D.C., thanks to Sinclair.

WJLA-TV 7 / Washington, D.C. (“ABC 7”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than DCRTV, great website): Get ready for WJLA 7’s first move as being owned by Baltimore-based, Sinclair Broadcast Group. WJLA 7 is scheduled to launch an hour-long 4:00 p.m. newscast on September 15th with Leon Harris and Alison Starling. This newscast will compete with WRC-TV 4’s News 4 at 4:00, which is already well-established in the market and is #1 in that timeslot. No, they will not use the great team of Gordon Peterson and Maureen Bunyan. They will solely remain at 6:00 p.m. ONLY, which means that Leon and Alison will be doing the news at 4:00, 5:00 and 11:00 p.m. on ABC 7.

Be aware that the station is now owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which also owns cable-only NewsChannel 8 and plans to turn it into a national cable news network.

DCRTV first reported this news and so far, neither TVSpy, TVNewsCheck or FTVLive has reported it, which claims this report as FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than the great wonderful folks at DCRTV, which we will credit them with this story. They are a great website, btw. DCRTV.com)
