WMAQ goes from half-hour at noon to hour-long at 11:00 a.m.

WMAQ-TV 5 / Chicago (“NBC 5 Chicago”)

Well, it seemed like NBC 5 Chicago News at Noon was not doing good at that timeslot, maybe because it was being beat by WGN 9’s Midday News at Noon. So it looks like, WMAQ-TV 5 has decided to expand it’s midday broadcast, but move it to 11:00 a.m. in order to make it, an hour-long. Stefan Holt from NBC 5 Chicago News Today and Marion Brooks from NBC 5 Chicago News at Noon will anchor the brand new hour-long NBC 5 Chicago News Midday at 11:00 a.m., once it launches on September 8th. Of course, this will create a TV schedule flaw, but they worked it out.

  • 12:00 p.m. – Days of Our Lives
  • 1:00 p.m. – The Meredith Vieira Show (Series Premiere)
  • 2:00 p.m. – Steve Harvey (Season 3 Premiere)
  • 3:00 p.m. – Ellen (Season 12 Premiere)
  • 4:00 p.m. – Extra
  • 4:30 p.m. – NBC 5 Chicago News at 4:30

This newscast will compete with WBBM 2 (half-hour) and WGN 9 (hour-long) for midday news at 11:00 a.m. as well as 24/7 cable-only news channel, CLTV. WLS 7 cut their hour-long midday newscast it aired for 20 years in 2013 for Windy City LIVE, which moved from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
