KSAT 12 loses a half-hour at 4:00 p.m., but gains a half-hour at 6:30 p.m.

KSAT-TV 12 / San Antonio (“KSAT 12”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than MySA at MySanAntonio.com): Well it looks like KSAT 12 will do a role-swap in the afternoon. The station has been doing poorly on it’s 4:00 p.m. newscast as it continues it’s 2nd-place run to KENS 5’s Eyewitness News, First at 4:00. Because of that, after September 5th’s show, KSAT 12’s First News at 4:00 will no longer air. It has rejected KSAT 12 from claiming a full sweep on it’s ratings, since all of their newscasts (except the 4:00 p.m. newscast) are usually #1, including the hour-long noon and 10:00 p.m. newscasts.

Speaking of hour-long, KSAT 12 will expand it’s 6:00 o’clock newscast, The KSAT 12, 6:00 O’Clock News, to an hour-long, starting September 8th.

With the discontinuation of the 4:00 p.m. broadcast, KENS 5 will be back as the ONLY station in San Antonio with news at 4:00 p.m. while KSAT 12 will face competition from WOAI 4’s already-established 6:30 p.m. broadcast. It’s a swap of roles for KSAT 12.

IMO… I expect KSAT 12 to dominate the 6:00 O’Clock hour, since WOAI 4 has always been in #3 place in terms of news, so when KSAT 12 finishes it’s first month of it’s hour-long 6:00 O’Clock news, I wouldn’t be surprised if KSAT 12 already beats WOAI 4 for local news at 6:30 p.m. Wouldn’t be surprised.

KSAT 12’s First News at 4:00 would be replaced by Inside Edition and this is how the new daytime lineup would roll out:

  • 4:00-4:30 p.m. – Inside Edition (moves from 4:30 p.m.)
  • 4:30-5:00 p.m. – Entertainment TONIGHT
  • 5:00-5:30 p.m. – KSAT 12 News at 5:00
  • 5:30-6:00 p.m. – ABC World News with Diane Sawyer (expected to be replaced by David Muir on Tuesday, September 2nd)
  • 6:00-7:00 p.m. – The KSAT 12, 6:00 O’Clock News
