WJET is set to expand their morning newscast to 5:00 a.m.

WJET-TV 24 / Erie, PA (“JET 24”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Erie is a very small market and is not much known as a big time PA market. It’s the smallest market in the state, but yet… there is a shining light for those who love WJET 24. Here’s why.

Starting September 1st (this upcoming Monday, which is also Labor Day), JET 24 Action News Good Morning Erie expands to 5:00 a.m. Previously, the morning broadcast started at 5:30 a.m. and will now compete with WICU 12’s 12 News Today for morning news at 5:00 a.m. JET 24 has had their morning newscast start at 5:30 a.m. for years, because of Erie being a small market.

What’s weird about this market is that WJET 24 will now air morning news from 5:00-7:00 a.m. but have WFXP 66 still air a morning newscast from 8:00-9:00 a.m., instead of 7:00-9:00 a.m. WJET 24 produces a weekday 8:00 a.m. morning newscast and a nightly 10:00 p.m. newscast for WFXP FOX 66.

Kudos to WJET 24 for finally giving 5:00 a.m. a chance. It’s long overdue.
