2 secret newscast additions/expansions in Northwest Arkansas…

KFSM-TV 5 / Fort Smith – Fayetteville (“Channel 5”)
KHBS 40 / Fort Smith and KHOG 29 / Fayetteville (both “40/29”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: This is something that I didn’t know until just now, but I’m happy to report about this, since the Northwestern Arkansas TV market is growing…

KFSM 5 has recently added a Saturday morning newscast from 5:00-7:00 a.m. to complement it’s weekday (4:30-7:00 a.m.) and Sunday morning (6:00-8:00 a.m.) newscasts. The new Saturday morning newscast runs from 5:00-7:00 a.m. and is the only one on at 5:00 a.m. in that market on Saturdays. It’s also the only one on at 7:00 a.m. on Sundays. The new Saturday morning newscast, as well as the Sunday morning newscast, competes with KHBS 40/KHOG 29’s 40/29 News at Sunrise for weekend morning news. KNWA 51 still remains the only one to not air weekend morning news in a growing TV market that is Northwest Arkansas. Speaking of KHBS 40/KHOG 29…

… KHBS 40/KHOG 29 recently expanded their Saturday morning newscast to include another hour at 9:00 a.m. and now, their Saturday morning newscast runs from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-10:00 a.m. The Sunday morning newscast is still from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-9:00 a.m. But this could be due to the College Football season, which is now in swing and that KHBS 40/KHOG 29 has moved E/I programming to Sundays. It’s the only one on from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturdays and is also the only one on from 8:00-9:00 a.m. on Sundays.

Just to let you know, all 3 news departments (KFSM 5, KHBS 40/KHOG 29 and KNWA 51) air primetime news at 9:00 for one of their sister stations (KFSM 5’s 9:00 p.m. news (half-hour) is on KXNW 34, KHBS 40/KHOG 29’s 9:00 p.m. news (half-hour) is on Arkansas’ CW (KHBS-DT2 40.2/KHOG-DT2 29.2) and KNWA 51’s hour-long (weeknight) and half-hour (weekend) 9:00 p.m. news is on KFTA FOX 24)

Other than that, it’s a good time to be in the Northwest of Arkansas. Good time, news-wise, indeed.
