KCRA has expanded the 10:00 p.m. newscast to an hour for KQCA.

KCRA-TV 3 / Sacramento – Stockton – Modesto (“KCRA 3”)
KQCA 58 / Stockton – Sacramento – Modesto (“My 58”)

NOW… everybody in Sacramento produces nightly 10:00 p.m. news for an hour. Why am I bringing this up?

Well… starting TONIGHT, KCRA 3 News at 10:00 on My 58 expands to an hour-long broadcast. The weekend editions will also expand to an hour, starting September 27th. This newscast will now compete entirely with KOVR’s CBS 13 News at 10:00 and KTXL’s FOX 40 News at 10:00 for hour-long, nightly primetime news. Those other 2 newscasts are also an hour-long, 7 nights a week.

The station has also brought in the following to anchor or report for the station:

  1. Rob Malcolm who will co-anchor the expanded 10:00 p.m. weeknight newscast with former KWGN worker, Kellie DeMarco (formerly MacMullan). He will also report for the 5:00, 6:00, 6:30 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts on KCRA 3.
  2. Kathy Park joins the station as a weekend anchor and will anchor the expanded weekend 10:00 p.m. broadcast. She will also report for the 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts, during the week. She comes from WJLA 7 in D.C.
  3. Brian Heap joins the station from KWCH 12 in Wichita and will also anchor at 10:00 p.m. on weekends with Kathy. He will also report for the 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts, throughout the week.
  4. Michelle Dapper comes to the station as a sports reporter/anchor from KHQ 6/SWX (Sports and Weather, Right NOW) in Spokane and will deliver the weekend sports at 10:00 p.m.
  5. Linda Mumma who will reporting from the Modesto bureau of KCRA 3, coming over from KFSN 30 in Fresno.

It’s a very VERY good time right now for KCRA 3 and KQCA 58, indeed.
