Now this could change the O.K.C. news landscape forever. Or maybe now. We’ll see.
TVSpy reported earlier today that KWTV 9’s owners, Griffin Communications, is buying KSBI 52. At this time, cash purchase is not being reported. However, it will be brought from Family Broadcasting Group, Inc., KSBI 52’s soon-to-be former owners.
With this deal, KSBI 52 would create a duopoly with KWTV 9 and would create even more opportunities for KWTV 9 to broadcast even more news and weather programming for KSBI 52. And since the station is a MyNetworkTV affiliate, it could create a third primetime news option at 9:00 p.m.
They already said that it would move CBS programming to KSBI 52, just in case KWTV 9 has to air any BREAKING NEWS or severe weather wall-to-wall coverage (as it’s usual in nicknamed Tornado Alley, which includes Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and some other states in the Midwest). Not only it could provide a primetime news option for KSBI 52, but it could also air news in other timeslots that KWTV 9 just doesn’t have time for (example, 7:00-10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., 5:30-6:00 p.m., weekend mornings, etc.)
We’ll just see how this all goes, once KSBI 52 is in KWTV 9’s hands. I bet it will go well.
