They are gonna try to be the new KING at 4:00 p.m. in Seattle.

KING-TV 5 / Seattle – Tacoma – Everett (“KING 5”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Well… we now have a 3-way race for news at 4:00 p.m. in Seattle. Who knew? I’m not surprised because there’s also a 3-way race for 4:00 p.m. news in Portland, OR. But lets just focus on Seattle.

Back on September 22nd, 2014, KING 5 recently added an hour-long weekday 4:00 p.m. newscast. This newscast competes against KOMO 4 and KCPQ 13 for news at 4:00, leaving KIRO 7 as still the only ones to still start at 5:00 p.m. The new newscast is anchored by Greg Copeland (who did weekend mornings and anchored on NWCN Northwest Cable News) and Joyce Wright (who did weekday mornings and probably just does noon and 4:00 p.m. now), 2 longtime KING 5 veterans.

This new newscast is already part of KING 5’s very huge newscast schedule on weekdays:

  • 4:30-7:00 AM: KING 5 Morning News
  • 7:00-9:00 AM: KING 5 Morning News on KONG 6/16
  • 12:00-1:00 PM: KING 5 News at Noon
  • 4:00-5:00 PM: KING 5 News at 4:00
  • 5:00-6:00 PM: KING 5 News at 5:00
  • 6:30-7:00 PM: KING 5 News at 6:30
  • 7:00-7:30 PM: KING 5 News at 7:00
  • 9:00-10:00 PM: KING 5 News at 9:00 on KONG 6/16
  • 10:00-11:00 PM: KING 5 News at 10:00 on KONG 6/16
  • 11:00-11:35 PM: KING 5 News at 11:00

If you combine it with KING 5’s non-newscast programming, it’s already a lot:

  • 11:00 AM-12:00 PM: New Day Northwest
  • 7:30-8:00 PM: KING 5’s Evening Magazine

It’s already a lot for KING 5, but they will do whatever it takes to remain #1 in Seattle and in all of Western Washington.
