A small minor newscast change… #13

WDIV-TV 4 / Detroit (“Local 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than TVNewsTalk.net): We have a small minor newscast change to report to start our day…

… WDIV 4’s noon newscast is now an hour-long newscast. The newscast was only a half-hour to support a daytime rerun of Jeopardy! but then took that out for a paid program, but now that’s gone as well for WDIV 4’s expanded noon news. This is just a handful of events from WDIV 4’s noon newscast history. CORRECTION: According to poster John Zadikian (thanks for reading our blog!), the program was canceled in 2013 for LIVE in the D and when that program debuted, it was on from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The noon newscast went to online-only viewers while on TV, it was replaced by a paid program and Jeopardy! from 12:00-1:00 p.m. But viewer backlash resulted in the station resuming a noon newscast. It’s always been a half-hour, but is now Detroit’s ONLY hour-long noon newscast. It also marks a return for hour-long noon news in the market, every since WXYZ 7 cut their noon news to half-hour to make way for Right This Minute.

The newscast is anchored by Evrod Cassimy, Rhonda Walker and Local4Caster AMS & NWA/Sealed Meteorologist Brandon Roux.

That’s all we got for to report for now. No other major additions or expansions to report.

  1. WDIV’s “Local 4 News at Noon” was shifted from broadcast to an online-only program when “Live in the D” premiered August 12. On TV, “News” was replaced by an infomercial/Jeopardy! combination from noon to 1 p.m.; “Live” was never an 11-12:30 show. The viewer backlash you wrote of is correct; “News” was eventually returned to the air as a broadcast program earlier this year. I’ve lived in Detroit my entire life and watch both programs regularly.

On a personal note…I’ve been following your blog for quite a while and I enjoy it. Keep up the great work!
