WKYT has added another hour of it’s Sunday morning news.

WKYT-TV 27 / Lexington (“WKYT”; “KYT”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: WKYT is the #1 station in the market and it looks like it has recently expanded their Sunday morning news. But not on their main channel, rather than on it’s CW digital subchannel.

WKYT 27 has recently expanded it’s Sunday morning newscast to 7:00 a.m. WKYT News This Morning is now seen at 7:00 a.m. on WKYT-DT 27.2, not on WKYT 27. The CW Lexington, as the channel is called, broadcasts the expanded hour of the Sunday morning newscast. It’s the same Sunday morning newscast format as the format you would see on WKYT News This Morning at 8:00 a.m. on WKYT 27. Just that it’s broadcast on The CW Lexington, due to WKYT 27 airing CBS’ E/I programming in that timeslot as well as WKYT 27’s own local programming, beforehand at 6:00 a.m. With the new expansion, it now competes against WLEX 18’s LEX 18 News Sunrise for Sunday morning news at 7:00 a.m.

Other than that, that’s it. The CW Lexington doesn’t broadcast any more newscasts than just this one because WKYT 27 produces most of it’s newscasts, either for WKYT 27 itself or for Sinclair-owned WDKY 56, which airs an hour-long 7:00 a.m. newscast and a nightly hour-long 10:00 p.m. newscast, produced by WKYT 27.
