WFTS expands its morning news coverage starting January 12th.

WFTS-TV 28 / Tampa – St. Petersburg (“ABC Action News”)

The 4:30 a.m. morning news expansion continues, but its more of an expansion for WFTS. In fact, there’s more. And also for now, the 4:30 a.m. expansion will stop here at this station in the Tampa Bay market.

Announced earlier today, WFTS 28 will expand its weekday morning news coverage by 90 minutes. First off, WFTS 28 will add ABC Action News This Morning at 4:30 a.m., becoming the 4th station to do so after WTVT 13, WFLA 8 and WTSP 10. WWSB 40/Cable 7 out of Sarasota, but is a part of the Tampa Bay market, will still start at 5:00 a.m.

And secondly, after Good Morning America, WFTS 28 will add another hour of local news from 9:00-10:00 a.m., in which it will broadcast another edition of ABC Action News This Morning. It will ONLY be the 2nd station after WTVT 13 to broadcast local news at 9:00 a.m.

All of these additions will start on January 12th, 2015 and will be anchored by the same morning news team as WFTS 28’s current 5:00-7:00 a.m. morning news block: Dan Shaffer, Deiah Riley, ABC Action Weather Meteorologist Shay Ryan and ABC Action Traffic with Lindsay Logue (who used to work at WBBH 20/Cable 2 in Fort Myers as the 4:00, 4:30 and 11:00 p.m. anchor).

It’s about time WFTS 28 would expands its morning coverage. I wonder what took WFTS 28 and Scripps, so long to do so.
