KBMT discontinues the 7:00 a.m. morning newscast for its MYTX station.

KBMT 12 / Beaumont – Port Arthur, TX (“12 KBMT ABC”)
KUIL-LD 12.5 / Beaumont – Port Arthur (“MYTX”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: So much for that. KUIL is back to no more news in Southeast Texas. Here’s why.

The station that’s known as MYTX no longer recently airs a 7:00 a.m. morning newscast produced by KBMT 12, its sister station. 12 News Daybreak at 7:00 a.m. on MYTX, as it was known, was one of two options for a LIVE morning newscast at 7:00 a.m. with the other option being KBTV 4’s The Morning ShowLaw and Order: SVU has now taken its place at 7:00 a.m., which now leaves KBTV 4’s The Morning Show as the ONLY option for local news from 7:00-9:00 a.m.

If you like More Local News (one of KBMT’s former slogans) in Southeast Texas, well that’s not the case with KBMT 12. In other words, happy holidays!

  1. “which now leaves KBTV 4’s The Morning Show as the ONLY option for local news from 7:00-9:00 a.m.” It is not an option either you watch their morning newscast or you don’t. One TV station for news is not really a choice. Its a take it or leave it deal. You either watch KBTV for 7:00a news or you don’t. LAW and Order is syndicated I heard it cost more to put syndicated programming on stations then it does to put on a local newscast. I thinks its called stationomics or newsonomics I think the TV station will say they cancel newscasts to save money but putting syndicated programming to replace news cost TV stations more then local newscasts. Its one of those economic ideas where people think it is cheaper and it ends up costing more. Stationomics or Newsonomics must be TV Station politics.
