WCBS expands its Sunday late-night newscast to an hour.

WCBS-TV 2 / New York City (“CBS 2”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Is it weird that NYC is now home to 3 late-night hour-long newscasts at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday nights? Probably not because its New York City. Anyways, here’s the details…

… WCBS 2 has recently and quietly expanded their Sunday 11:00 p.m. newscast to an hour. The newscast that features longtime WCBS veteran Cindy Hsu alongside Meteorologist Elise Finch and sports anchor Steve Overmeyer, is now the 3rd station to expand to an hour on Sunday nights, the first being WABC 7 and then WNBC 4. WABC 7 is the ONLY ones however to broadcast an hour-long newscast at 11:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Also, unrelated to this expansion, WCBS 2 has once again expanded their Sunday morning 6:00 a.m. newscast to an hour. Apparently, this is a regular since they cut it down to a half-hour during the NFL season to show Jets-related programming. They show McLaughlin Group at 6:30 a.m. during the NFL season and at 11:30 a.m. not during the season.

I wonder what WCBS 2 has in store now. It’s not like it’s gonna change anything… right?
