WOWT will discontinue the 4:00 p.m. while expanding the 6:00 p.m.

WOWT 6 / Omaha (“WOWT NBC Omaha”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: I was the first to report on this, thanks to Jeremy. And even I don’t know if WOWT knows about this. If not, they will know about it now.

This Friday will be the last day for WOWT 6’s WOWT 6 News, First at 4:00. The half-hour program will be discontinued for Extra. Once its discontinued, KMTV 3 will be the ONLY option for local news at 4:00 p.m., plus they have an extra half-hour at 4:30 p.m., something that WOWT 6 never provided. But there will be something that WOWT 6 will provide that neither KMTV 3 or KETV 7 won’t…

… On Monday January 26th, the week after the 4:00 p.m. discontinuation, WOWT 6 will expand WOWT 6 News, LIVE at 6:00 to a full hour. Which means, it will be the ONLY option for local news at 6:30 p.m. in Omaha, since KMTV 3 and KETV 7 will remain a half-hour at 6:00 p.m. for local news. The newscast will be helmed by John Knicely and Malorie Maddox with WOWT 6, The Weather Authority from Chief Metorologist Mike LaPoint and WOWT 6 Sports director Ross Jernstrom. Extra is currently on WOWT 6’s lineup at 6:30 p.m. Once Monday hits, the program moves into the soon-to-be former 4:00 p.m. newscast’s spot.

They will cut the 4:00 p.m. half-hour to have the 6:00 p.m. full hour. I’m telling you, they discontinue a newscast somewhere and then expand one, elsewhere. The industry does it all the time and WOWT 6 is no exception.
