FIRST ON THE BLOG: Its about time WTNH has done something good for once and once you hear it, you’ll know why.
For many years, WTNH 8 had an hour-long noon newscast called NewsChannel 8 at Noon. It was the only hour-long noon newscast in the market. But in February of 2009, the program was cut to a half-hour to air Connecticut Style, a Connecticut-based lifestyle/talk show program at 12:30 p.m. And then in April of 2010, WTNH 8’s newscasts were rebranded as News 8. NOW almost 6 years later, the hour-long noon newscast is back.
For the first time in WTNH 8’s News 8-era and almost 6 years after cutting the noon news to a half-hour program, the midday newscast is back to being a full hour-long newscast once again. Its now an hour-long, since Connecticut Style left the 12:30 p.m. timeslot, moved it up to 9:00 a.m. and expanded that program to a full-hour. This now makes WTNH 8 as the ONLY hour-long newscast at noon in Connecticut, since WFSB 3 (the long-time market leader) only broadcasts a half-hour program at noon (due to CBS Daytime continuing at 12:30 p.m.). WTNH 8 has now aired an hour-long newscast at noon since January 12th of this year, which was last week (as of this post).
So, if you missed WVIT 30 for hour-long news at 11:00 a.m., then just turn to WTNH 8 for hour-long noon news at noon. You won’t be sorry! But in all seriousness, good job WTNH 8. Glad to see them do this again.
