FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re ready for more and earlier morning news in Central Mississippi, then look no further to WJTV.
Just recently, WJTV 12 launched the area’s second 4:30 a.m. newscast. Titled WJTV NewsChannel 12 Morning at 4:30 a.m., the program now joins WAPT 16 as the only newscasts in the market that’s up at that timeslot, leaving WLBT 3 as the only one to still start at 5:00 a.m. The program is anchored by Erin Pickens and Andrew Harrison with StormTeam 12 Weather from Meteorologist Brad Maushart.
By the way, according to what we are hearing from, the name of that program and the name for all newscasts won’t be used for long as the station is ready to change its name from long-time NewsChannel 12 to WJTV News. They have speculated about this by using WJTV and not NewsChannel 12 in recent promos about how the station serves their communities and how they deliver the news.
I say this one is one kinda too late to the 4:30 a.m. expansion party, but at least they have theirs on first than WLBT 3, the usual #1 market leader. So good for you, WJTV 12! (You too WAPT 16, you were already up at 4:30 a.m., longer than WJTV 12. Major props and claps for a usual #3rd-place station.)
