WCBD cuts the morning news on The CW.

WCBD-TV 2 / Charleston (“WCBD NBC 2”)
WCBD-DT 2.2 / Charleston (“The Lowcountry CW 14”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Well… there you go. Weeks after adding the 4:30 a.m. half-hour to their morning newscast, another half-hour had to be cut to make room for it.

WCBD 2 was the first station to expand their morning newscast to 4:30 a.m. in The Lowcountry in South Carolina. Just recently now, WCBD 2 cut the 7:00 a.m. half-hour morning newscast for its CW subchannel on WCBD 2.2, otherwise known as The Lowcountry CW 14. The program, which featured WCBD 2’s current News 2 Today team, has now been replaced by Intelligence For Your Life, which features John Tesh, formerly from Entertainment TONIGHT and a radio talk show host.

Now the only news that’s left on The Lowcountry CW 14 is a rebroadcast of the weeknight 6:00 p.m. news at 10:00 p.m. But don’t worry and don’t fear Lowcountry, WTAT 24 continues to air a LIVE 1-hour morning newscast from 7:00-8:00 a.m. with the FOX 24 News Morning Edition at 7:00 a.m. as well as a nightly 10:00 p.m. newscast with FOX 24 News at 10:00, in which both are produced by WCSC 5, the market’s #1 leader.

If you don’t like this cut-down, then good news. Just move to WCSC 5 on WTAT 24 and you’ll get the news there and not from WCBD 2 on WCBD 2.2. Congrats WCBD 2! You messed up.

  1. This business with cutting news when adding news elsewhere is why last week on this blog I was predicting that KPRC-TV in Houston would cut its 4:00 pm newscast in exchange for an expanded midday newscast, even though you said it may not likely happen if so then KPRC-TV will not play this newsonomics or stationomics game and do their own thing.

  2. If KPRC-TV keeps its 4:00pm newscast and does not cut it then they might expand it to an hour. And If KPRC-TV is number one then in the future they may have a TV news lineup like WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee with local news outside of network programing.

      • Doesn’t mean anything. The DFW TV Market has 3 TV stations with 4:00pm newscasts and all three newscast are an hour long or a much smaller market like Knoxville where there are also 3 TV stations with hour long 4:00pm newscasts. I don’t know how you can have a much smaller market then Houston or DFW where there are 3 TV stations with 4:00 pm news. Maybe in a Market like Knoxville more people watch news at 4:00pm then in Houston or Dallas.
