KRIS has given more news to Corpus Christi and South Texas.

KRIS-TV 6 / Corpus Christi (“KRIS 6 News”)
KRIS-DT 6.2 / Corpus Christi (“The CW South Texas”)
K47DF-D2 47.2 / Corpus Christi (“KDF-TV”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Corpus Christi, here is your news. Actually, what I meant to say is that… Corpus Christi, here is more news.

KRIS 6 has recently added a Sunday night 5:00 p.m. newscast that took place, earlier this month (possibly was added last Sunday). With this addition, this becomes the ONLY local newscast at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays, as KIII 3 (#1 in the market) broadcasts local news on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. However, this newscast ain’t simulcast on KZTV 10, opting to air American Latino TV in its place instead. It does simulcast the Sunday night 10:00 p.m. news and the other weekend newscasts from KRIS 6. But this ain’t the only addition it made…

… KRIS 6’s 9:00 p.m. newscast has now been expanded to Saturday nights with another half-hour newscast on both KRIS-DT 6.2 (The CW South Texas) and on Independent station K47DF-D2 47.2 (KDF-TV). With the addition, the 9:00 p.m. newscast is now run nightly, 7 nights a week for 30 minutes on both channels. And it remains as the ONLY primetime newscast in South Texas. Plus, K47DF-D2 47.2 also carries the area’s ONLY hour-long morning newscast at 7:00 a.m.

You know how they say KIII 3 is home to More Local News? I don’t think that’s the case. I think that KRIS 6 is THE home to More Local News in South Texas.

  1. Corpus Christi is another TV Market with no 4:30 am morning newscast and the Corpus Christi Market does not have afternoon news at the 4:00 pm hour.
