KTVU is going to 4:00 a.m. by Monday and 4:00 p.m. by the Summer.

KTVU 2 / Oakland – San Francisco – San Jose (“KTVU FOX 2”)

KTVU is known for The 10:00 O’Clock News on KTVU Channel 2. As of recently though since Summer of 2014, FOX has been ruing KTVU as the way we all grew up looking at KTVU as… delivering a solid reputation of having The Most-Watched Primetime Newscast in the Country. The good news, though, is that more news is coming to KTVU.

Starting this Monday April 20th, 2015, KTVU 2 will be expanding KTVU Mornings on 2 by a half-hour and will now start at 4:00 a.m. This means that the program will now run from 4:00-9:00 a.m., weekday mornings. With this new addition, KTVU 2 will now be able to compete against KRON 4 for local morning news at 4:00 a.m., as KRON 4’s is from 4:00-10:00 a.m. and it has been for quite a while now. Expect Dave Clark and Pam Cook to wake up a half-hour earlier to get to work and deliver the area’s second-only newscast in the market at 4:00 a.m. Plus, expect more of Steve Paulson and his Weather Authority and “Uncle Sam” (get it? Because Tax Day is Tomorrow) Sam Castaneda with his Traffic Authority reports. This is not the only addition though…

… KTVU 2 will also add an hour-long 4:00 p.m. newscast, starting in the summer. No word yet as to who will anchor the new 4:00 p.m. newscast, neither do we know who will do The Weather Authority forecasts. One thing is for sure, it will compete against KGO 7’s hour-long 4:00 p.m. newscast, which started in 2011 after Oprah left her 25-year tenure as syndicated TV host. Don’t expect Gasia Mikaelian to anchor the new 4:00 p.m. newscast because she will be replacing Tori Campbell in the 7:00-9:00 a.m. shift of KTVU Mornings on 2. KTVU 2 will become the first FOX owned-and-operated TV station to add a local newscast at 4:00 p.m., since the majority of FOX’s O&O stations start their local newscasts at 5:00 p.m. (WJZY 46 starts at 6:00 p.m. while WFLD 32 doesn’t air an early evening newscast at all. WFXT 25 did start at 5:00 p.m. as well as WHBQ 13. They have both since been sold to COX Media Group.)

KTVU 2’s Vice President and News Director Dana Hahn:

“This expansion furthers our commitment as the news leader in San Francisco. We will continue to adapt to meet the needs of our viewers with local news where and when they want it.”

So even though KTVU 2 being bought by FOX could have been the worst thing to happen in the station’s history, it could also be a blessing for more local news for the station. Stay tuned…

    • Give them time. KTVU was just recently brought by FOX in the Summer, then transitioned earlier this year. Besides, 9:00 a.m. is for Right This Minute, in which KTVU is the flagship station for production.
