WCMH is now on Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. in Columbus.

WCMH-TV 4 / Columbus (“NBC 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: The station in Columbus that is Here For You, has expanded its news product on Saturdays.

WCMH 4 has recently added a half-hour newscast on Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. Titled NBC 4 at 7:00, this creates the ONLY half-hour local newscast on Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. or on any night, for that matter, at 7:00 p.m. in Columbus. This was possibly done for WCMH 4 to air a local newscast, just in case NBC Sports programming preempted the station’s regular weekend newscast at 6:00 p.m. The newscast is anchored by Candice Lee with StormTeam 4 Weather from Meteorologist Ben Gelber.

Another Media General station, expanding their news department, this year. My oh my. I wonder what Media General will do with its other stations soon.

  1. The Columbus TV Markets needs to get local news at 4:00 pm. The CMH TV market is one of the very few top 50 TV Markets in the Grand United States of America that does not have local news at 4:00 pm. When it comes to the 3 C’s in Ohio, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland the CMH TV market does not have a 4:00 pm newscast. Cincinnati has 2 TV Stations with 4:00 pm news WCPO-TV 9, and WKRC-TV 12 and Cleveland has 3 TV stations with 4:00 pm news WEWS-TV 5, WJW-TV FOX 8 and WOIO-TV 19 have 4:00 pm newzcasts. I don’t know why the CMH TV Market does not have 4:00 pm news. I know a while back this very station WCMH-TV 4 had a 4:00 pm newscast but it only lasted for about a year. WBNS-TV is the top rated TV station in Columbus and they should have gotten a 4:00 pm newscast to replace Oprah since a lot of TV stations I typed a list of TV stations that carried Oprah and replaced them with local newscast when Oprah was cancelled there were 46 TV stations that replaced Oprah with local newscasts and WBNS was not one of them. Your thinking with WNBS-TV being the most watched news station in Columbus they would have replaced Oprah with a 4:00 pm newscast. I know the CMH TV Market is a TV market like Indianapolis and the INDY TV market has 2 TV stations with 4:00pm newscasts WRTV-TV 6, and WXIN-TV 59. I hope the CMH TV Market gets into the 4:00 pm news business soon.

  2. Austin Texas is also a large TV Market that does not have local 4:00pm news but its debated because you could count Time Warner Cable News has having 4:00pm news but if you don’t have cable in Austin then no 4:00pm news.

  3. There adding it because MG likes there high market (100 and up) legacy stations (pre young and Lin) to have 7pm newscasts, just like former MG station, WJAR and current MG station WFLA. It’s cheaper then what they were airing before in that slot. It will only go to weekdays IF the ratings on weekends are good, and if they decide that what airs at 7pm weekdays costs too much.
