WTEN is ready to add more news at 4:30 p.m., starting June 1st.

WTEN 10 / Albany – Schenectady – Troy and WCDC 19 / Adams – Pittsfield, MA (BOTH known as “10 ABC”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: May has been a slow month for us and there’s been barely anything new so far. But we finally have something to report on.

WTEN 10 will announce soon that they will add a brand new half-hour weekday newscast at 4:30 p.m. Titled News 10 ABC at 4:30 p.m., the new newscast will begin Monday June 1st, 2015. The half-hour newscast will become the ONLY local newscast on at 4:30 p.m. in the market, since WRGB 6 and WNYT 13 will still air syndicated programming. And this will create the area’s ONLY 2 and a 1/2 hour local news block from 4:00-6:30 p.m. This move will displace Inside Edition from its current 4:30 p.m. timeslot and according to TV listings, may move to another station in the market.

There is no official announcement yet made by the station, nor do we know who will anchor the new broadcast. But we have a feeling that it will be anchored by long-time WTEN 10 veteran Elisa Streeter and long-time Capital Region TV market veteran Lydia Kulbida with News 10 StormTracker Weather from long-time WTEN 10 veteran and Chief Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo, but this is not official. Just my prediction.

Anyways, more news in the Capital Region is good news in this market. For WTEN 10, they are hitting strides. Good for them.

  1. WTEN should have also gotten a 4:30am morning newscast. WNYT-TV 13 in Albany also needs to get 4:30am morning news. WRGB-TV 6 is the only news station in the Albany, NY Capital Region Market to have morning news at 4:30am. I hope soon that WTEN or WNYT will get 4:30am morning news.

  2. If May has been a slow month on this blog more then likely expect June and July to be a slow month because of the summer season. In August and definitely September it will be a booming month because in the fall is when a majority of TV stations in the Grand United States of America expand or cut news and change their schedules around. In September is when a majority of stations change their daytime lineups and add or cut news in their schedules. Like when Oprah ended its run a lot of the stations replaced Oprah with local newz or other programming in September.

  3. I think your close but it’s most likely going to be Lydia with John Gray. He’s only anchoring the 10pm FOX show and they will probably want him to anchor more. Elisa already anchors the 5, 5:30, 6 and 11, too much to add another show on her plate too.
