WNCT will add their first-ever weekend morning newscast.

WNCT-TV 9 / Greenville – Washington – New Bern – Jacksonville, NC (“9 On Your Side”)

This could’ve been an exclusive story to us weeks ago, but we were missing a key detail… the duration of the newscasts. Unfortunately, TVSpy beat us to the punch and now this story is no longer exclusive to us. However, we now have the details we need, so here’s the full story:

WNCT 9 will add their first-ever weekend morning newscast on Saturday June 27th and Sunday June 28th, 2015. The newscast, which will be known as 9 On Your Side – The Weekend Morning Edition, will air on Saturdays from 6:00-7:00 a.m. and on Sundays from 6:00-8:00 a.m. The newscast will be anchored by Kelly Byrne and WNCT 9 First Alert Weather with Meteorologist Pierce Legeion.

The Saturday 6:00 a.m. hour will compete against WITN 7’s WITN News Sunrise. The Sunday 6:00 a.m. hour will be the ONLY ones on in that area while the Sunday 7:00 a.m. hour will compete against WITN 7’s WITN News Sunrise and WCTI 12’s Good Morning Eastern Carolina.

WNCT 9’s General Manager John O. Lewis:

“Weekend morning news is important to our viewers and we’re thrilled to launch this new show with the great team of Kelly Bryne and Pierce Legeion who will continue the tradition of bringing WNCT 9 On Your Side’s viewers, the latest news and weather weekend mornings.”

WNCT 9 was the last station in the area to add a weekend morning newscast, but its better late than never.

  1. WNCT should have gotten a 4:30 am newscast. WITN-TV has a 4:30 am newscast. I don’t how many TV stations in the Greenville, NC TV Market could support 4:30am news. I don’t know if all three TV stations in the Greenville, NC market could support weekend morning news. WFXI-TV 14 should also consider getting morning news at 7:00am or 8:00am like most FOX station have.

  2. Why do you want every station to be on at 4:30am?

It’s not realistic at every station. I applaud them for getting a weekend morning newscast, and it shows that MG is serious about investing in WNCT (one of the longest owned MG stations).

    • I don’t know if its realistic for a TV market the size of Greenville, NC for all news stations in that market to have weekend morning news. I don’t know if a TV market that size can support all three news stations having weekend morning news. The Raleigh Durham TV Market is much bigger then the Greenville, TV market and all 3 news stations in a market the size of Raleigh could support weekend morning news.
