WFLA adds and discontinues some newscasts on weekends.

WFLA-TV 8 / Tampa – St. Petersburg (“NewsChannel 8”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Changes have been made to WFLA’s weekend schedule. It comes with some additions and some discontinuations on WFLA.

Recently, since last month – according to WFLA 8 on their Facebook page, WFLA 8 has added a 2-hour weekend morning news block from 6:00-8:00 a.m. Both the Saturday and Sunday 6:00 a.m. hour competes against market leader WTVT 13 (FOX)’s FOX 13 News – Good Day Tampa Bay and WFTS 28 (ABC)’s ABC Action News This Morning while the Saturday 7:00 a.m. hour competes against everybody in the market, except for Sarasota-based WWSB 40 (ABC), which doesn’t do weekend morning news. The Sunday 7:00 a.m. hour only competes against WTVT 13 (FOX).

WFLA 8, however, has discontinued the Saturday 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon hours, in favor of The Today Show at 9:00 a.m., which is now tape-delayed from where it was before from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and with NBC Kids (E/I) programming now airing from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the Saturday noon hour had to be discontinued. However, its not the case on Sundays. The Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon hours are still kept by WFLA 8.

The Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon hours are all by themselves with no competition from the other stations in the market. Now the noon newscast is only available on Sundays, as WFLA 8 doesn’t air a noon newscast weekdays or now on Saturdays.

So new hours are there by WFLA 8, but as you add, some had to be cut and that’s what WFLA 8 has done. Enjoy the new changes, Tampa Bay.
