KPLC is to add local Sunday news at 5:00 p.m., starting this weekend.

KPLC 7 / Lake Charles – Lafayette, LA (“KPLC 7”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: More local news is coming to the small TV market of Lake Charles. For this TV station, it will also affect Lafayette, since it also serves that TV market.

KPLC 7 will be adding a half-hour local newscast on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. starting this Sunday, June 28th, 2015.  Titled 7 News – LIVE at 5:00, the newscast will be anchored by Erica Bivens with 7 StormTeam Weather from Meteorologist Zack Fradella.

The new newscast will be the ONLY ones on in both the Lake Charles and the Lafayette TV markets. KPLC 7 also serves the Lafayette market, since currently they don’t have an NBC station of their own (that is until KLAF-LD 46/KADN 15.2 debuts as an NBC station for Lafayette on July 1st). This brings an earlier option for local Sunday news in the Lake Charles market, since KFDM 6 (CBS; Beaumont-Port Arthur and also carried in Lake Charles) carries a Sunday newscast at 5:30pm while KATC 3 (ABC) and KLFY 10 (CBS) from the Lafayette market also carry local Sunday news at 5:30pm.

An earlier option can be a good option for KPLC 7. And therefore, this is a good move. Enjoy, Southwest Louisiana.
