WALA will now be delivering “News in the Morning,” on weekends.

WALA-TV 10 / Mobile, AL – Pensacola, FL (“FOX 10”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than TV and Radio in Southwest Alabama): As if there wasn’t gonna be more change in Southwest Alabama and the Northwest Florida Panhandle, apparently there is. And this time, its an addition. And WALA is a part of it.

Starting Saturday August 8th, 2015, WALA 10 will be adding a weekend morning newscast from 6:00-8:00 a.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays. FOX 10 News in the Morning, as its known, will be expanding to weekends for the very first time. We don’t know as to who will deliver the news or the StormTracker Weather as of yet, but this will become the third station in the market (after WEAR 3 – ABC and WKRG 5 – CBS) to offer a weekend morning newscast in the market.

On Saturdays at 6:00 a.m., WALA 10 will compete against WEAR 3’s 3 in the Morning while the 7:00 a.m. hour will be all by themselves. On Sundays at 6:00 a.m., the station would compete against WEAR 3 and WKRG 5’s WKRG News 5 This Morning while the Sunday 7:00 a.m. hour will also compete against WKRG 5. This would leave WPMI 15 (CBS) as the ONLY station in the market to not offer a weekend morning newscast and there may not be one on that station because, according to a user on TVNewsTalk, of the ownership structure between WPMI 15 and WEAR 3 and that any more Sinclair programming (local news or something else) could violate their JSA/SSA with WEAR 3 and sister station, WFGX 35 (MyTV).

By the time this newscast has been added, the market would have gone from just one hour of weekend morning news with WEAR 3, to three hours on Saturdays and two hours on Sundays. The market will now receive Saturday morning news from 5:00-8:00 a.m. (with 5:00 a.m. on WKRG 5, 6:00 a.m. on WEAR 3/WALA 10 and 7:00 a.m. on WALA 10) and Sunday morning news from 6:00-8:00 a.m. (6:00 a.m. on WEAR 3/WKRG 5/WALA 10 and 7:00 a.m. on WKRG 5/WALA 10).

More weekend morning news is coming to the market. Finally, something is done by these stations in market #59. Now, they are acting like they are in market #59. Thank you WALA 10 for making this commitment.
