FIRST ON THE BLOG: WNEM has really put their digital subchannel, My 5, into good use when it comes to local news and they have done it again.

Just recently and confirmed to me on WNEM 5’s official Facebook page (WNEMTV5news), WNEM 5 has expanded their popular morning show, WNEM-TV 5 News – Wake Up, to a LIVE newscast hour from 7:00-8:00 a.m. on their digital subchannel WNEM-DT 5.2, otherwise known as My 5. The newscast is now seen for three hours from 5:00-7:00 a.m. on WNEM 5 and then from 7:00-8:00 a.m. on My 5 and now provides as the area’s ONLY local newscast in the area from 7:00-8:00 a.m.

This is the third such expansion for WNEM’s digital subchannel this year. First, it replaced a repeat of the 6:00 p.m. news at 7:00 p.m. with a LIVE 7:00 p.m. newscast. Then in May 2015, the 10:00 p.m. news it provided for WSMH 66 (FOX, now WEYI 25’s sister station) was moved to WNEM’s digital subchannel. And now in July 2015, a 7:00 a.m. morning newscast that is the ONLY one on in Mid-Michigan.

This is a good time for WNEM’s subchannel, indeed. And for Mid-Michigan, a good bonus for them.
