WALA will go on at 10:00 p.m. for the first time in almost 20 years.

WALA-TV 10 / Mobile, AL – Pensacola, FL (“FOX 10”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: For the second time in just under a month, WALA is expanding its news operation, AGAIN. This time, in a timeslot that they haven’t done so in almost 20 years.

Starting Monday August 24th, 2015, WALA 10 will be adding a half-hour 10:00 p.m. weeknight newscast and will be, obviously, called FOX 10 News at 10:00. The newscast will compete with WEAR 3 (ABC), WKRG 5 (CBS) and WPMI 15 (NBC) for the very first time in almost 20 years for local news in that timeslot. Even though I feel like its almost 10 or less so years, because WALA 10 still produced a 10:00 p.m. newscast in the years after switching from NBC to FOX and it wasn’t until years later that WALA 10 moved the newscast to 9:00 p.m. and expanded it to a full hour.

We responded to an email to WALA 10’s General Manager Gary Yoder for a response as well as to details regarding this new newscast, but we have heard of nothing yet from Gary. So as of now, we don’t know as to who will anchor the new newscast as well as who will deliver StormTracker Weather and sports. Neither do we know as to if WALA 10 will be adding a weekend edition as well. But we’ll find out as more details comes in.

So far, its just for weeknights only, so on weekends, WEAR 3, WKRG 5 and WPMI 15 will still be the only ones producing local news at 10:00 p.m. as WALA 10 seems to have no interest in producing one for the weekends anytime soon.

So yet, even MORE local news is coming to WALA 10 on your TV screens in Mobile – Pensacola. This may not be the last we hear from this market this year. Stay tuned…
