FIRST ON THE BLOG: More local news is coming to the South Carolina Pee-Dee (Myrtle Beach – Florence) and this time, it will be an alternative to a newscast that’s already on the air in the region.
Starting Monday August 31st, 2015, WMBF 32 will add a weeknight half-hour local newscast at 7:00 p.m., obviously titled WMBF News at 7:00. The new weeknight newscast will compete with WPDE 15 (ABC)’s ABC 15 News at 7:00 (formerly WPDE NewsChannel 15) for local weeknight news in that timeslot in the market. The newscast will replace Access Hollywood with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, which will move to 7:30 p.m. while Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? (soon-to-be with new host Chris Harrison), will move from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The new newscast will be solo anchored by Lisa Gresci, who was already a reporter/video journalist with the station. WMBF First Alert Weather will be delivered by Meteorologist Robert Whitehurst, who was already delivering the 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. weather on the station. And, according to WMBF.com, the newscast will be produced by Matt Moore. WMBF 32 promotes the newscast as this (from the story on their website)…
“You’re not living in a 9 to 5 world anymore, and WMBF News at 7 p.m. is designed with that in mind.”
Interesting tidbit to point out… Until this announcement made by WMBF 32, it was the ONLY Raycom Media-owned station in South Carolina that didn’t have a 7:00 p.m. newscast, as WIS 10 (NBC) and WCSC 5 (CBS) already had established their own weeknight half-hour 7:00 p.m. newscasts (with WIS 10 having theirs since 1963).
So if you’re looking for an alternative to WPDE 15’s already-established 7:00 p.m. newscast, then look no further to WMBF 32.
