FIRST ON THE BLOG: There have been a few changes recently in Central Georgia, involving two of the most recognized stations in the market.
Just recently, WMAZ 13 (or better known as 13WMAZ) has stopped airing a LIVE 7:00 a.m. half-hour of 13WMAZ Eyewitness News Mornin’ on its digital subchannel, WMAZ-DT 13.2 (otherwise known as Central Georgia’s CW). The program has since been replaced by The CW Plus‘ showing of Intelligence For Your Life TV with former Entertainment TONIGHT co-host John Tesh, as one of that program’s co-hosts. With this discontinuation, the weekday morning program is now from 5:00-7:00 a.m. and it leaves WGXA 24 (FOX/ABC) as the ONLY local morning newscast that’s LIVE at 7:00 a.m. on weekdays (the rebroadcast of WMGT 41 (NBC/MyTV)’s 41 NBC News at Daybreak from 7:00-9:00 a.m. on WMGT-DT 41.2, My 41.2, doesn’t count since its a rebroadcast.). Speaking of WGXA 24…
… WGXA 24 has stopped producing a LIVE 7:00 p.m. newscast on its digital subchannel, WGXA ABC 16 on WGXA-DT 24.2 (According to Wikipedia, its called WGXA ABC 16 because of WGXA 24’s physical digital channel allocation, Channel 16, using PSIP to display the station’s virtual channel to Channel 24.). It was the ONLY local weeknight half-hour broadcast at 7:00 p.m. in the market, but the newscast has since been replaced by Entertainment TONIGHT with Nancy O’Dell and Kevin Frazier. Also since the discontinuation, all newscasts on WGXA 24 have since been called FOX 24 News (for WGXA 24.1) and ABC 16 News (for WGXA 24.2)
So not much discontinuation, but its hurts where it does. And less Central Georgia news in the evening, but in the morning, not so much.
