FIRST ON THE BLOG: WCPO hasn’t been #1 for quite some time now, even though they have been #1 for a long-time until WKRC’s dominance started in 2010. But now, WCPO will add a newscast to try to shrink or regain that dominance.
Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, WCPO 9 will add a weeknight half-hour 7:00 p.m. newscast. Titled 9 On Your Side at 7:00, it will be the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the Cincinnati viewing area and what WCPO 9 says it as… “An on your side move by the station to provide a newscast fitting the lifestyle of viewers working late and commuters caught in rush-hour traffic.”
Expect the latest Cincinnati news and weather from anchor Julie Dolan and 9 First Warning Weather with Chief Meteorologist Steve Raleigh.
WCPO 9 says, in a story on WCPO.com, that…
“9 On Your Side at 7:00 is a live, local alternative for people who may not be home in time to watch an early evening newscast.”
Alex Bongiorno, WCPO 9’s News Director:
“We saw the need to provide a newscast for people getting home late from work – it fits perfectly with our ‘on your side‘ brand. Now, viewers will have breaking news, their 9 First Warning Forecast and the top stories of the day at a time convenient for their lifestyle.”
Because of this new addition, programming changes will be made to WCPO 9 and just in time for the start of the 2015-2016 TV season. The List (from Scripps) will move to 7:30 p.m. while Right This Minute (one of my favorite shows and co-produced with Scripps, Cox and Raycom) will air two back-to-back half-hour episodes from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
If you’re looking for an alternative to local news at 4:00, 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. in Cincinnati, then WCPO 9 is here to help you with local news at 7:00 p.m. Good job, WCPO 9. At least you thought about those who can’t watch till 7:00 p.m.
