FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small minor change to report from Baton Rouge that also affects Lafayette.
WVLA 33 has moved its weeknight half-hour 6:30 p.m. newscast to 6:00 p.m. and is now called NBC 33 News at 6:00. This move now enables WVLA 33 to compete at 6:00 p.m. against WBRZ 2 (ABC)’s WBRZ News 2 at 6:00 and WAFB 9 (CBS)’s 9 News at 6:00 for local news in that timeslot, which means now more local newscasts at 6:30 p.m.
This move also affects Lafayette, since KLAF 46 also carries WVLA 33’s newscasts, temporarily, until KLAF 46 launches its own news department in January 2016. Because of the move, there’s also no local newscast at 6:30 p.m. in Lafayette anymore, since the move to 6:00 p.m. also competes against KATC 3 (ABC)’s KATC 3 – Acadiana’s NewsChannel at 6:00, KLFY 10 (CBS)’s KLFY News 10 at 6:00 and Lake Charles-based KPLC 7 (NBC)’s 7 News at 6:00 for local news in that timeslot. The change only affects weeknights as WVLA 33 continues to produce a 6:30 p.m. newscast on Saturday nights.
But other than this, there are no other major additions or expansions to report at this time.
