FIRST ON THE BLOG: A year ago, KMGH shortened its midday newscast to a half-hour, so that it can carry Right This Minute. Now that Let’s Ask America has been canceled, KMGH is expanding it again.
Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, KMGH 7 will be expanding their midday newscast, back to an hour. 7 News Midday will run, once again from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Previously, the show was for a half-hour because the station aired Right This Minute at 11:30 a.m. while the now-canceled show Let’s Ask America, aired at 2:00 p.m., alongside Inside Edition. Once the program expands to a full hour again, 2 episodes of Right This Minute will take over the 2:00 p.m. hour-long slot, replacing the now-canceled show and Inside Edition, giving room for KMGH 7 to expand their midday newscast, once again, to a full hour.
KMGH 7 is one of two Denver stations that air their midday newscasts at 11:00 a.m. (KTVD 20 – MyTV – also airs it, produced by their sister station KUSA 9 – NBC. It’s a half-hour newscast.). Their rivals, KCNC 4 (CBS) and KUSA 9 (NBC) air half-hour midday newscasts at 12:00 Noon, while KDVR 31 (FOX) and KWGN 2 (CW) don’t air midday newscasts at all, making KMGH 7 as the ONLY station in the area that will air their midday newscast for a full hour. 7 News Midday is anchored by Mitch Jelniker and StormStation 7 Weather from Meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo.
KMGH 7 is going back to a full hour. That’s right, Denver’s 7 viewers. You heard me right. More midday news is good news for the Denver area, IMO.
