FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for more local news at midday in Southern Arizona, well… there’s none at the moment. On Monday September 14th, 2015, KVOA will change all that.
Starting on that day, KVOA 4 is scheduled to expand their midday newscast, News 4 Tucson at Noon, from 30 minutes to a full hour. The noon newscast is anchored by Alison Alexander (formerly from WLNE 6 (ABC) in Providence – New Bedford, that’s where I remember her) with 4WARN Weather from Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This will become the ONLY hour-long midday newscast in Southern Arizona, as KOLD 13 (CBS)’s midday newscast is only run for a half-hour at 12:00 Noon, while KGUN 9 (ABC) doesn’t air a midday newscast at all.
The new half-hour newscast will replace Justice with Judge Mablean in the 12:30 p.m. timeslot and that show is currently scheduled to leave KVOA 4’s airwaves. Plus, this will become the ONLY station in Arizona with an hour-long noon newscast, as KPHO 5 (CBS), KSAZ 10 (FOX) and KPNX 12 (NBC) all produce half-hour noon news in Phoenix, while the Yuma – El Centro market doesn’t have local midday news at all.
This is a move where I say… its about time! Glad that a station in Southern Arizona is doing this.
