WTHI is adding a weeknight 7:00 p.m. newscast for its digital subchannel.

WTHI-TV 10 / Terre Haute, IN (“WTHI 10”)
WTHI-DT 10.2 / Terre Haute, IN (“MyFOX 10”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: The Wabash Valley is not known to adding a lot of local newscasts, but on September 14th, the market will actually have a new newscast, thanks to WTHI 10.

Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, WTHI 10 will add a half-hour weeknight 7:00 p.m. newscast on its digital subchannel, WTHI-DT 10.2, otherwise known as MyFOX 10, which carries dual FOX / MyNetworkTV affiliations. The newscast, known as News 10 at 7:00 on MyFOX 10, will be anchored by long-time WTHI 10 veteran Patrece Dayton (been there since 1988) and Jon Swaner with StormTeam 10 Weather from another long-time WTHI 10 veteran and AMS/Sealed Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Orpurt (been there since 1982).

With this addition, WTHI 10 will now broadcast local news on weeknights at 7:00 and every night at 10:00 p.m. for its digital subchannel, with both newscasts providing the ONLY local newscasts during those times in the Wabash Valley, providing options for even more local news in the area. This is possibly targeting those who can’t get home by the 4:00 (WTWO 2 – NBC), 5:00 (WTHI 10 and WAWV 38 – ABC), 5:30 (WAWV 38) or 6:00 p.m. (WTWO 2 and WTHI 10) news in the area. The new newscast will replace two episodes of The Andy Griffith Show during the 7:00 p.m. hour and it will be replaced at 7:30 p.m. by an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, starring Ray Romano.

This is a very good move, made by a station that’s already Leading The Way in the news ratings in the Wabash Valley and will strength it further with this newest newscast. Congrats to WTHI 10 and enjoy, Wabash Valley!
