FIRST ON THE BLOG: WTMJ has had an exodus lately, involving talent and ratings. So, it will cancel one of its newscasts to possibly try to improve its news product.
After Friday September 11th, 2015, WTMJ 4 will no longer air its hour-long 3:00 p.m. newscast, Today’s TMJ4 News – LIVE at 3:00. The newscast was the ONLY option for local news at 3:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, but after that day, the show will be replaced by The FAB Life, a daytime lifestyle talk show featuring a 5-person panel, moderated by talk show host and supermodel Tyra Banks and also featuring Chrissy Teigen.
When this newscast discontinues, WTMJ 4 will be starting once again at 4:00 p.m. for the first time in years, but this time, it will start with WDJT 58 (CBS), as it has launched 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. news of its own earlier this year. This move was done because of WTMJ 4’s new owners at Scripps and are making changes to try to improve WTMJ 4’s news product, since its been suffering for the last few years under Journal ownership, involving talent and ratings.
So, a newscast had to be cut in order for WTMJ 4’s news operation to be improved. I guess that’s how Scripps sees it. But at the same time, there was no option for WTMJ 4 to put the show, other than 3:00 p.m. Therefore, the newscast gets cut. If you liked it Milwaukee, sorry to report about this.
I don’t even know if people watched WTMJ 3:00pm newscast. Its bad of course they cut the 3:00pm but it would make sesne for them to can the newscast. But how much news can you report with an hour long 3:00pm, 4:00pm plus 5:00p, 6:00p, and 6:30pm evening news block on WTMJ? Someone says theres only so much local news you can report maybe a WTMJ schedule would work in a place like LA or NYC with countless local news stories but I don’t know about a place like Milwaukee.

I don’t think they did, because Milwaukee is a large market, but not as large as the Top 10.

I don’t think many people did because unlike the Top 10 markets, Milwaukee is not large enough, even though it’s considered a large market by some standards.

Even though its strange that in Begas both KSNV NBC 3 and KTNV have 3:00pm news and its a smaller Market then Milwaukee. Now a 3:00pm newscast more then likely works in LA because KCAL use to have 3:00pm news and KTLA has a 3:00pm news

It’s not a newscast, it’s a lifestyle/talk show and it’s called “TCL: Twin Cities LIVE.”

I wouldn’t say a sad day for WPTV its a happy day for WPTV since their midday news will be expanded to an hour and on an hour earlier if you don’t want to wait till noon to get news.

WISN-TV another number one news station with the least amount of TV News just like KOAT in my city of Albuquerque no noon newscast, 4, or 6:30pm news. A news station that has no news on for over 8 hours between 7:00am to 5:00pm no newscasts. WISN-TV I believed is owned by Hearst the same company that own KOAT evidently a lot of Hearst stations have no noon newscasts on them, KOAT, KMBC in KC, WISN in Milwaukee, KETV in Omaha, WMTW in Portland, Me, WDSU in NOLA but they do have a 4:00pm newscast, WPTZ in Burlington VT, and KOCO-TV 5 in OKC. I hope Hearst does not decided to cut news on their new station WVTM-TV 13 in Birmingham channel 13 in Birmingham has midday, 4:00p, 6:30pm news and even their morning news starts at 4:00am.

AND! None of our ABC affiliates air local news at Noon here in Oklahoma and in OKC only 2 stations (3 if you count KSBI’s simulcast) with KOKH and KOCO not showing the news at Noon.
