KVAL is adding an hour-long morning newscast at 9:00 a.m., starting September 14th.

KVAL-TV 13 / Eugene, KCBY-TV 11 / Coos Bay and KPIC 4 / Roseburg (“KVAL CBS 13”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for more morning news in Western Oregon, you got it. Thank KVAL for this one.

Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, KVAL 13 and its sister stations across Western Oregon (KCBY 11 and KPIC 4), will be adding an hour-long morning newscast at 9:00 a.m., obviously called KVAL News at 9:00 a.m. The newscast will feature the latest news and weather in Western Oregon and will be the ONLY option for local news at 9:00 a.m. in Eugune and Western Oregon, as other stations will be either carrying syndicated programming, or in sister station through SSA KMTR 16 and satellites KMCB 23/KTCW 46 (NBC)’s case, Today.

I don’t know as to who will anchor the news or deliver the weather on this particular morning newscast, but it could be the same crew that already anchors KVAL 13’s current 5:00-7:00 a.m. morning news block. This will actually be the second morning newscast after 7:00 a.m. in the area as My Network TV-affiliated station KEVU-CD 23 carries the 8:00 a.m. (LIVE) hour of FOX 12 News – Good Day Oregon from KPTV 12 (FOX) in Portland, which makes that hour, more targeted towards Portland and not towards people in Western Oregon.

But safe assure you, this is a good move for KVAL 13. It’s something that the people of Western Oregon can enjoy, if they can. And it gives them more options for more local news at more times. Good for you, KVAL 13.

  1. I wonder now that all the TV stations that were formally owned by Fisher KAUT-TV 2, KOMO-TV 4, and KVAL-TV still manage their TV stations indpendent from Sinclair rules as if they were still Fisher owned stations or if they have gone the Sinclair route and run their stations like Sinclair does.

    • KATU 2 is starting to take that route, because they now have the Sinclair News Package as their theme, but other than that, so far, its been mostly the Fisher look and feel on KATU 2, KOMO 4, KVAL 13 and some other stations.

Only KBOI 2, as I recall now, has the entire Sinclair look and feel and music.
