FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for a morning newscast in the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the only option right now is WLOX News – Good Morning Mississippi from market leader WLOX (ABC/CBS). But in 2 weeks, that all changes.
Starting Monday September 21st, 2015, WXXV 25 will debut its first-ever weekday morning newscast with News 25 Today. The newscast will be seen on both WXXV 25’s main channel, WXXV FOX 25 (WXXV 25.1) and on WXXV 25’s NBC subchannel, WXXV NBC 25 (WXXV 25.2). The newscast will be anchored by Katarina Luketich and Bryan Kennedy with Weather Edge 25 from long-time MS Gulf Coast TV veteran and NWA/Membered Meteorologist Rob Knight.
The broadcast will be aired from 6:00-8:00 a.m., with the 6:00-7:00 a.m. hour, seen on WXXV NBC 25 while the 7:00-8:00 a.m. hour will be seen on WXXV FOX 25. The 6:00 a.m. hour competes against long-time leader WLOX 13’s Good Morning Mississippi, which is seen on both their ABC and CBS subchannels, while the 7:00 a.m. hour will be the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market.
A very good time for WXXV 25, indeed and WLOX 13 better watch out. WXXV 25 is giving WLOX 13, a good run for their money.

“WXXV 25 is giving WLOX 13, a good run for their money”. Not really WXXV doesn’t have a 4:30a, 5:00am, noon, 4, or 6:00pm newscast like WLOX has. I don’t know how long it would take for WXXV to catch up to WLOX 13 when it comes to the amount of news that WLOX has.

When TV stations cut newscast I sometimes think that stations are not serious about their news. Sometimes I think stations cut newscasts because they become too lazy and decide they just don’t want to bother with having a particular newscast anymore. I sometimes don’t understand how a news operation would want to do self harm by cutting newscasts and news reporting staff and allow their competitor to beat them and improve their news which a station has done in my city of Albuquerque several years ago.

Just what I said if stations were real serious about investment into their news or giving their competitors a run for their money you would do everything to try to be on top not do the opposite and cutting news doesn’t help a station be number one.
