Newscasts debuting this weekend… Edition #18

WFXT 25 / Boston (“FOX 25”)
WSVN 7 / Miami – Ft. Lauderdale (“WSVN 7”)
WABC-TV 7 / New York City (“ABC 7”; “Channel 7”)

Here we go folks. More newscasts are debuting this weekend. Today, we said goodbye to 3 newscasts from around the country (WTMJ 4 in Milwaukee’s 3pm news, WPTV 5 in the Palm Beaches’ 12:00 Noon news and WYTV 33 in Youngstown’s 5:30pm news). However, we get 3 more newscasts this weekend. Here’s that list in day and time order (in EST).

Saturday September 12th, 2015

  • 6:00-7:00 AM: FOX 25 Morning News at 6:00 a.m.
  • 7:00-8:00 AM: FOX 25 Morning News at 7:00 a.m.
  • 8:00-9:00 AM: FOX 25 Morning News at 8:00 a.m.
  • 9:00-10:00 AM: FOX 25 Morning News at 9:00 a.m.

WFXT in Boston. The station becomes the last in the Boston-licensed TV stations to launch a weekend morning newscast as well as the last within their owners at Cox Media Group. Heather Hedegus will anchor the new 4-hour weekend morning newscast. This will compete against WBZ 4 (CBS) from 6:00-8:00 a.m., WCVB 5 (ABC) from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-9:00 a.m., WHDH 7 (NBC) from 6:00-7:00 and 9:00-10:00 a.m. and WMUR 9 (ABC) from Manchester from 6:00-9:00 a.m.

Sunday September 13th, 2015

  • 9:00-10:00 AM: FOX 25 Morning News at 9:00 a.m.

WFXT in Boston. See above. On Sundays, it will compete against WBZ 4 from 6:00-9:00 a.m., WCVB 5 from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-10:00 a.m., WHDH 7 from 7:30-8:00 and 9:00-10:00 a.m. and WMUR 9 from 6:00-9:00 a.m.

  • 8:00-9:00 AM: 7 News – Today in Florida at 8:00 a.m.
  • 9:00-10:00 AM: 7 News – Today in Florida at 9:00 a.m.
  • 10:00-11:00 AM: 7 News – Today in Florida at 10:00 a.m.

WSVN in Miami. FINALLY! The station adds a Sunday morning newscast, after running religious and E/I programming for years, in which IMO, didn’t belong there, since there’s already enough Religious programming on TBN and enough E/I programming on other stations. Lorena Estrada, Omar Lewis and Meteorologist Karlene Chavis will all helm the Sunday morning edition. But starting tomorrow, they will all helm the Saturday morning edition as well. So basically, Lorena, Omar and Karlene will be the permanent team for the weekend editions of Today in Florida, just like how Diana Diaz, Christine Cruz, Ashley Morrison and Vivian Gonzalez already helm the weekday morning editions.

  • 5:00-6:00 PM: Channel 7 Eyewitness News at 5:00

WABC in New York. The ONLY hour-long 5:00 p.m. newscast on Sundays in NYC and again, it will feature Joe Torres, Sandra Bookman, Jeff Smith and Laura Behnke. This comes after ABC is not known for showing much sports coverage on Sundays, as much as CBS or NBC. They do show NBA on Sundays, during that season, but that’s about it.

That’s it for now. If more, we will let you know. Get ready for Monday of this week and Monday of next week. There will be a lot of newscasts debuting over these next 2 weeks, so stay tuned to The Changing Newscasts Blog!
