FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for some more news during the weekend in Northeast Ohio, boy oh boy I got good news for you. Two of your stations are adding and expanding news within the next 2 weeks, this is joining WOIO’s move to 9:00 p.m. on WUAB.
First off, starting tomorrow, Sunday September 13th, 2015, WEWS 5 is adding Sunday morning newscasts with NewsChannel 5’s Good Morning Cleveland. The news programs will now be shown on Sundays from 8:00-9:00 a.m. after GMA and before This Week and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. after This Week. WEWS 5 becomes the last station in Cleveland to air a Sunday morning newscast. The 8:00 a.m. hour will compete against WJW 8 (FOX) and WOIO 19 (CBS) while the 10:00 a.m. hour will be solely by themselves.
Meanwhile, over at the WKYC Digital Broadcast Center, WKYC 3 is expanding its Saturday morning newscast, starting Saturday September 19th, 2015. Channel 3 News Today is expanding earlier to 5:00 a.m. and will be Cleveland’s ONLY local newscast at 5:00 a.m. on Saturdays, but will continue to start on Sundays at 6:00 a.m.
And reminder, the weekend after WKYC 3 expands its Saturday morning news, WOIO 19 will move its 10:00 p.m. newscast on WUAB 43 to 9:00 p.m. and retain an hour-long, while also maintaining a half-hour newscast on weeknights at 10:00 p.m. Also to note, WOIO 19 is home to the only local TV station without a Saturday morning newscast, making it the only local TV station in Cleveland, after tomorrow, to only have a local morning newscast 6 days a week, instead of 7.
Some very exciting times in Northeast Ohio indeed. I feel very excited for you guys. Enjoy, Cleveland!
