FIRST ON THE BLOG: WSBT is about to do something that it has never ever done before… a Sunday morning newscast.
Yep, that’s right. Starting Sunday September 20th, 2015, WSBT 22 will add a 90-minute Sunday morning newscast that will run on Sunday mornings from 6:30-8:00 a.m. and will be called WSBT Channel 22 News – First Thing in the Morning. According to WSBT.com, Kristin Bien and WSBT 22 First Alert Weather with Meteorologist Ed Russo will be a part of the new newscast.
Once this new newscast launches, it will compete against the second half-hour of WBND 57 (ABC)’s Sunday morning 6:00 a.m. hour as well as their entire 7:00 a.m. hour. WNDU 16 (NBC) only does an hour of Sunday morning news from 8:00-9:00 a.m. while WSJV 28 (FOX) doesn’t air weekend morning news, at all.
WSBT 22’s News Director, John Haferkamp:
“Our award-winning staff is very proud and excited to offer the No. 1 rated morning newscast seven days a week. Viewers can expect to see WSBT’s commitment to breaking news coverage and the latest in weather information. We are always looking for the best ways to serve our audience. Launching this new Sunday morning newscast gives WSBT another opportunity to provide important information to our viewers.”
This is not the first time that we have covered WSBT 22 in this blog, as last year, we reported that WSBT 22 added a half-hour 4:00 p.m. newscast, WSBT Channel 22 News – First at 4:00, that continues to be the ONLY local newscast on at that timeslot in Michiana.
Look for more weekend morning news in Michiana, coming this weekend. Boy, its gonna be a good one for a station that is being sold to a yet-determined buyer. Thank you, the Gray TV/Schurz Communications merger.
