A small minor newscast change… #49

KFSM-TV 5 / Ft. Smith – Fayetteville – Rogers, AR (“Channel 5”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small change to report from Northwest Arkansas.

Just recently, KFSM 5 has expanded their Sunday morning newscast to 5:00 a.m., which means that 5 News This Morning is now on Sundays from 5:00-8:00 a.m., matching its existing Saturday start time of 5:00 a.m. as well.

With this hour-long addition, KFSM 5 is now home to the ONLY local station in the area that delivers a 5:00 a.m. morning newscast on weekends. KHBS 40/KHOG 29 (ABC/CW) starts at 6:00 a.m. while KNWA 51 (NBC) doesn’t offer a weekend morning newscast at all.

Other than this, there are no other major additions or expansions to report at this time.

  1. KFSM also used to have a 24-hour local cable all day news channel at one time. When Digital TV came out I think KFSM 24-hour news channel was put on KFSM-DT 5.2 sub digital channel, I think KFSM-DT 5.2 is no longer a 24-hour news channel and is now the MY TV network channel for the Fort Smith TV Market.

    • No. I think KFSM 5.2 originally started as a MyTV affiliate in 2006 as My 5.2 before becoming a simulcast of KXNW 34. Their 24-hour rebroadcast channel is only on cable, unless it has been already taken down, in this case, there’s no more in that area.
