FIRST ON THE BLOG: The Mississippi Pine Belt is a very small TV market and is not known for adding or expanding a lot of newscasts. However, history will be made in that market on Monday October 5th, 2015.
Starting on that day, WHPM 23 will launch its first-ever local newscast, a weeknight half-hour newscast at 9:00 p.m. called FOX 23 News at 9:00. The newscast will become the first-ever local primetime newscast in the area, since long-time leader WDAM 7 (NBC/ABC) and WHLT 22 (CBS/CW) doesn’t produce or air a primetime newscast at all.
I have no idea as to who will anchor the news or deliver the weather on this newscast. However, this does has a similar idea as to what their sister station in Meridian, WGBC 30 (FOX/NBC) will be doing as well, as it will add a half-hour weeknight newscast at 9:00 p.m., starting on that day as well.
So there you go folks. For those of you who live in the Mississippi Pine Belt (Hattiesburg – Laurel), you’re gonna get something exciting. Enjoy you’re new and first-ever, local primetime newscast.
