WMDT has added Delmarva’s ONLY local newscast at 5:30 p.m. for “The 47 ABC Newshour.”

WMDT 47 / Salisbury, MD – Dover, DE (“47 ABC”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Well I didn’t know this until right just now. And its been going on since September 14th of this year. Never knew it when we did the big newscasts debuts and all that, but now I can tell you about a local station in Delmarva, adding a local newscast.

Since Monday September 14th, 2015, WMDT 47 has added a half-hour local newscast at 5:30 p.m. and has renamed their early-evening news block as The 47 ABC Newshour. The new addition creates Delmarva’s ONLY option for a local newscast at 5:30 p.m., since long-time leader in the region WBOC 16 (CBS/FOX), nor WRDE 31 (NBC/MyTV) doesn’t offer a local newscast in that timeslot. WBOC 16 currently airs an hour-long lifestyle/talk program Delmarva Life in that timeslot, while WBOC 21.2, which is home to FOX 21 Delmarva, airs The Insider after the half-hour 5:00 p.m. local newscast and WRDE 31 airs Extra.

The newscast is currently anchored by David Caldwell and Emily Lampa with 47 ABC StormTeam Weather from Chief Meteorologist Travis Michels and Sports from sports director Spenser Tilus. This new half-hour newscast does lead into their existing 6:00 p.m. newscast, which was also renamed into the Newshour block.

More local news in Delmarva and in a new and interesting way.

  1. I mean you can expand news in the 5:00 pm hour timeslot to 60 minutes with 5:30 pm news on WBOC and have a 5:00 pm newscast on WMDT meaning that both TV station would have a 90 minute local news block like most TV stations in the Eastern Time Zone Market have. The Salisbury TV Market is kind of an exception to the rule with the way the evening news block is set up in that Market.

  2. What is Delmarva Life @ 5:00pm on WBOC-TV is it considered a newscast if it is I stand correct about WBOC not having a 5:30pm newscast because Delmarva Life is an hour long show. I wonder if WRDE the NBC affiliate in Salisbury will get more news in the future right now they just have wimpy 6 and 11 pm newscasts.

  3. Another thing that is odd about the Salisbury TV Market is that the FOX station does not have 7:00 am or 8:00 am morning news like most FOX stations have.
