FIRST ON THE BLOG: KXVA and KIDY are two of TEGNA’s youngest stations that produce and air their own newscasts. But their evening and late night newscasts are separate. Now, they have a morning newscast that is together and simulcast on both stations.
Since yesterday, Monday October 5th, 2015, KXVA 15 and KIDY 6 have aired a new local weekday morning newscast called Wake Up West Texas. The program airs from 5:30-8:00 a.m. and it serves as the home to Abilene and San Angelo’s ONLY local newscast at 7:00 a.m. The program is anchored by Chris Webb and Whitney Wylie. Chris also delivers the weather on the morning program and LIVE morning reports from reporter Margaux Farrell.
This is KXVA 15 and KIDY 6’s first produced in-house local morning newscast, but its not the first time that these stations are airing weekday morning news. Back from 2009 until January of 2014, both stations would air FOX 29 News First from 5:00-9:00 a.m. from KABB 29 (FOX) in San Antonio; it also simulcasted their nightly hour-long 9:00 p.m. newscast as well.
So in the end, a new 2-and-a-half-hour morning newscast that’s seen on both Abilene – Sweetwater (BIG Country) and San Angelo and the ONLY option for local news at 7:00 a.m. Sounds kinda neat to me.
