WPBF adds a mid-morning weekday newscast at 9:00 a.m.

WPBF 25 / Tequesta – West Palm Beach (“WPBF 25”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: A mid-morning newscast in Palm Beach? Wasn’t possible until yesterday when WPBF launched one.

Since yesterday, Monday October 5th, 2015, WPBF 25 has aired an hour-long mid-morning weekday newscast at 9:00 a.m. with WPBF 25 News at 9:00 a.m. The newscast is the ONLY ones on in the market, since WFLX 29 (FOX)’s FOX 29 Morning News ends at 9:00 a.m.

The new mid-morning newscast is anchored by Erin Guy and Stephanie Berzinski with WPBF 25 First Alert Weather from Meteorologist Sandra Shaw and Paul Lagrone providing LIVE breaking news updates.

According to WPBF 25 in a press release, “the program, which will feature a strong social media component, will provide the morning’s local breaking news and weather, as well as regional, state, national and international news. The broadcast will include lifestyle segments encompassing consumer stories, health, money, parenting, politics, local entertainment, community issues, as well as local guest experts on a variety of topics.”

WPBF 25’s President and G.M., Caroline Taplett:

“We’re very excited about expanding our news footprint within the local television market. The variety of content we’ll be addressing on WPBF 25 News at 9:00am is important to our South Florida lifestyle. We are always identifying new ways to respond to our evolving viewer’s needs. We believe this newscast will stand apart in the market and provide our viewers with a new perspective on important and relevant stories affecting their lives.”

With this move, The Dr. Oz Show moves back an hour from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. while The Meredith Vieira Show downgrades significantly from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., the next day. This will also mean that WPBF 25 will have 6 hours of LIVE local and national news from 4:00-10:00 a.m. with America This Morning at 4:00, WPBF 25 News Mornings starting at 4:30, Good Morning America at 7:00 and WPBF 25 News, again at 9:00 a.m.

More morning news in the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, thanks to WPBF 25. Enjoy!

  1. This is a surprise for a Hearst owned ABC Station most Heart owned ABC stations do not even have a noon newscast and have over 8 hours with no news on with 10 hours between the next newscast normally from 7:00am when GMA starts to 5:00 pm with no newscasts. The Heart ABC stations that do not have noon news or midday newscasts are KOAT-TV 7 in my city of Albuquerque, WISN-TV 12 in Milwaukee, KMBC-TV in KC, WMTW-TV 8 in Portland, ME, WAPT-TV in Jackson, MS, KHBS/KHOG in Fort Smith, AR, KSBW-TV ABC sub channel, in Montrey, KETV in Omaha, KOCO in OKC. I hope in the future that Hearst will get rid of its syndicated programming in these stations and start allowing these stations to start investing in noon newscasts or mid morning newscasts. Maybe with WPBF expanding a mid morning 9:00am newscast this is a start to allow Hearst ABC stations to start having more flexibility when it comes to their stations allowing more time for local newscasts. I think local newscasts are less expensive then syndicated programming.

  2. Lately, we’ve seen other TV station groups experimenting with local non-news shows (like WLS’s Windy City Live, WISH’s Indy Style, WJXT’s new River City Live, and the TEGNA pay-to-play type shows) or station group shows (Scripps’ The Now and The List news programs, Tribune’s EyeOpener, and Meredith’s recently canceled The Better Show). Don’t know if Hearst would want to do a non-news type local show on any of its stations or experiment with a group-wide show.

  3. I hope KOAT in my city of ABQ and several other Hearst ABC stations will expand news in the midday slot in the future the Meredith Vieira is carried on Hearts ABC Stations. WPBF expanding a 9:00am news may be a sign of things to come in the future for other Hearst ABC stations since most Hearst ABC stations do not have noon news.

  4. We have ENOUGH news now. It’s all just repetition. Let’s not be another CNN. We are bombarded with news starting EARLY morning and again, it just repeats what was said on the last broadcast. Nothing but crie, violence, weather. People get sick of that over & over. It’s refreshing to look at shows that are light, uplifting & makes you smile or laugh. I, personally , will not watch the expanded news nor Dr. Oz when I am home from work. I guess I will set my dvr to record Meredith show or stay up late from time to time to watch her show. I will go back to watching the Today show or turn the tv off – which may not be a bad idea now.
