KCBA now airs local news at 4:00 p.m., thanks to KTVU.

KCBA 35 / Salinas – Monterey – Santa Cruz (“FOX 35”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: KCBA’s news simulcasts with KTVU is working well. So much so that KCBA has added another news simulcast from KTVU.

Just recently in September 2015, KCBA 35 has added a simulcast of the weekday and hour-long KTVU FOX 2 News at 4:00 from KTVU 2 (FOX) in San Francisco. The newscast is the first afternoon newscast in the Monterey Bay Area (even though not locally-produced) as KSBW 8 (NBC/ABC) and KION 46 (CBS/CW) doesn’t produce or air one at all.

The newscast is anchored by Mike Mibach and Keba Arnold with The Weather Authority from alternating meteorologists, Mark Tamayo and Rosemary Orozco. Other than this new newscast, KCBA 35 airs KTVU Mornings on 2 on weekday mornings from 5:00-9:00 a.m. and on Sundays from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and yes, it does air The 10:00 O’Clock News on KTVU FOX 2, every night from 10:00-11:00 p.m.

So the news simulcasting agreement has expanded between KCBA 35 and KTVU 2. If you ask me, this is working out very well and glad that Monterey can get San Francisco Bay Area news as well.

    • They are operated by the same company, News-Press and Gazette Company.

The only difference is that NPG owns KION 46 outright while KCOY 12 is owned by VistaWest Media, LLC while operated by NPG under a SSA.

  1. Isn’t KEYT-TV ABC 3 in Santa Barbara also owned by VIstaWest Media? I think KEYT and KCOY and FOX 11 in Santa Barbara all merged their news department into one unified news department.
