FIRST ON THE BLOG: Some good news and bad news for those in the Tampa Bay area, but depending on what station you watch, this could be good news overall.
The good news is just recently, WTVT 13 has expanded their weekday morning newscast by a half-hour earlier, to 4:00 a.m. FOX 13 News – Good Day Tampa Bay at 4:00 a.m. is now the second station in the market, after WFLA 8 (NBC)’s NewsChannel 8 Today, which expanded to 4:00 a.m. earlier last month, to air local news in that timeslot in the area. FOX 13 News – Good Day Tampa Bay is now on for a whopping 6 hours from 4:00-10:00 a.m., weekday mornings.
The bad news is that WTSP 10 has discontinued their hour-long Saturday morning newscast. 10 News This Morning was seen from 7:00-8:00 a.m. on Saturdays and competed against the other major stations in the market, WFLA 8, WTVT 13 and WFTS 28 (ABC). The newscast was more likely canceled due to low ratings and E/I programming has since taken over the timeslot. However, WTSP 10 continues to produce a half-hour Sunday morning newscast at 8:30 a.m. that’s in conjunction with The Tampa Bay Times, one of Tampa Bay’s two major newspapers as the program is effectively known as 10 News Sunday Morning with The Tampa Bay Times.
So good news or bad news, depending on who you watch in the morning. IMO, if I lived in Tampa Bay, I would be watching WTVT 13, so the WTSP 10 Saturday morning discontinuation wouldn’t bother me at all.
