WMUR, just like WCVB, is adding a 5:00 p.m. weekend newscast as well.

WMUR-TV 9 / Manchester, NH – Boston, MA (“WMUR ABC 9”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you think WMUR is like a clone to WCVB, then it is with a few minor differences, of course. But now, WMUR will follow WCVB’s lead by offering a weekend newscast at 5:00 p.m.

In what should’ve started yesterday, but instead will start in just a few short hours, WMUR 9 will debut the weekend edition of its hour-long 5:00 p.m. newscast, WMUR News 9 at 5:00. Just like weeknights, the weekend edition will be an hour-long as well, joining WCVB 5 (ABC) in Boston (and their sister station) as the only two stations in New England to offer a weekend newscast at 5:00 p.m. The newscast will be anchored by WMUR’s current weekend evening news team: Stephanie Woods, StormWatch 9 Weather with AMS-CBM/Sealed Meteorologist Hayley LaPoint and Sports with Jason King.

The new newscast will also be aired on Saturdays, but only when ABC’s College Football season is over. This will be New Hampshire’s ONLY weekend newscast at 5:00 p.m. as WBIN 50 (Ind.)’s NH1 News only offers one weekend newscast at 10:00 p.m. (half-hour). Once this newscast debuts, WMUR 9 will be offering a 90-minute news block, 7 nights a week from 5:00-6:30 p.m., becoming one of the first TV stations in the america to offer this type of news block, every single night, with ESPN on ABC programming pending, of course.

So there you go New Hampshire, more statewide news is coming from the station that created statewide news in New Hampshire, WMUR 9. Enjoy the new newscast, Granite State!
