WVII has expanded its morning newscast by a half-hour while WFVX adds a 6:30 p.m. newscast.

WVII-TV 7 / Bangor (“ABC 7”)
WFVX-LD 22 / Bangor (“FOX 22”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: WVII and WFVX is home to a very small news operation and doesn’t produce as much local newscasts as its rivals (WLBZ and WABI), but WVII and WFVX seems to be on an expanding roll as of recently…

Just recently, WVII 7 has expanded their weekday morning newscast, ABC 7 News – Good Morning Maine, by a half-hour to 6:00am. The weekday morning newscast is also simulcast on their sister station WFVX 22, known as FOX 22, which also airs a weekday morning newscast at 7:00am. The stations now fully compete against the 6:00am hour of WLBZ 2 (NBC)’s NewsCenter – The Morning Report (produced by their sister station WCSH 6 in Portland) and long-time leader in Bangor, WABI 5 (CBS)’s WABI-TV 5 Morning News. The newscast is anchored by Bryan Shawver and Laura Smith with Weather being outsourced to Meteorologists from AccuWeather since WVII 7/WFVX 22 doesn’t have a local weather department of its own.

But this is not the only newscast they have added recently…

Apparently, since September of this year, WFVX 22 has aired a local weeknight half-hour newscast at 6:30pm called The JR Mitchell Report. Anchored by JR Mitchell, obviously, this creates Bangor’s first and ONLY local newscast at 6:30pm since the others are airing network newscasts on WLBZ 2, WABI 5 and even their sister station WVII 7. It does include a traditional format of news from JR Mitchell and Weather outsourced from AccuWeather.

So at the end of the day, more news on WVII 7 and WFVX 22. Good news for all living in Eastern and Central Maine. Enjoy, folks.
