KCRA will soon offer more local news at 4:00 p.m., starting in the new year.

KCRA-TV 3 / Sacramento – Stockton – Modesto (“KCRA 3”)

KCRA has long been the #1 news station in the Sacramento area. And starting in the new year, a new newscast is needed to continue to prove that they’re #1 in the market…

Starting Monday January 25th, 2016, KCRA 3 will be adding an hour-long weekday newscast at 4:00pm. The newscast, KCRA 3 News at 4:00, will compete against KOVR 13 (CBS)’s already-established CBS 13 News at 4:00 for local news in that timeslot in the market.

The newscast will be anchored by Lisa Gonzales (who already does the hour-long noon news from 12:00-1:00pm on KCRA 3 and will move away from her current shifts in the morning to allow her to anchor at Noon and 4:00pm) and Brian Heap (who moves from weekend evenings) with KCRA 3 First Alert Weather from longtime KCRA 3 veteran and AMS-CBM & NWA/Sealed Meteorologist Eileen Javora (who used to do the weekday morning/noon weather and will move from weekend mornings). The newscast will also feature LIVE HD traffic updates and BREAKING NEWS coverage in the air from its long-time helicopter, LIVE Copter 3 (which has been around at KCRA 3 since the Mid-70s).

Elliott Troshinsky, President and GM of KCRA 3 and sister station KQCA 58 (MyTV):

“At KCRA 3, ‘Where The News Comes First’ represents a 60-year commitment to delivering top-quality news coverage of our Sacramento community. Research has shown that people are looking for news no matter what time of day, and our new 4 p.m. newscast will give our viewers even more opportunity to get news and weather information. Whether it’s on our traditional broadcast stations, online, or on our social platforms or mobile apps, it’s our goal to deliver the same level of quality news and weather where and when our viewers want it.”

Lori Waldon, KCRA 3’s News Director:

“We are very excited about launching our new 4 p.m. newscast. Just as we did when we expanded our 10 p.m. news (on KQCA 58 – My 58), we are adding sizeable resources to our 4 p.m. newscast. Viewers can expect strong, aggressive reporting on the ground and also in the sky with LiveCopter 3. In these turbulent times, breaking news has never been more important. KCRA 3 News at 4 p.m. is positioned to put our viewers on the very front lines of where news is happening.”

Just like all other broadcasts, KCRA 3 is poised to be #1 in this new timeslot, since KCRA 3 has been the most dominant station in Sacramento this year and in the past 6 decades. You know their slogan ‘Where The News Comes First‘? I think they should be First at 4:00pm and now they will. This is great news for those short-time or long-time viewers of KCRA 3.

  1. I think Hearst stations may start to be abandoning syndicated daytime talks show in favor for more local newscasts. Hearst stations having been expanding newz lately like WCVB, WPBF, and now KCRA. I hope KOAT a Hearst owned TV station in my city gets more local news such as a noon, or 4:00pm newscast.

      • KOCO-TV also does not have a noon newscast or 4:00pm newscast. KOCO-TV is the TV station that has the least hours of local news in the OKC TV Market. Both KFOR and KWTV have noon and 4:00pm newscasts. KOKH-TV has more hours of local news the KOCO does. KFOR-TV broadcasts 7 hours of news per day. KWTV also 7 hours of news per day. KOKH has 8 or 8.5 hours of news per day. KOCO only has only 4 hours per day.

    • At one point it was KOKH that had the least amount of local news here in OKC. Since September, 2014 when FOX25 added a 5pm and 5:30pm Newscasts it’s be switched.

  2. In a WMFL universe KCRA would be a WMFL owned TV Station. In a WMFL universe KCRA call letters would be KSCA-TV 3 Sacramento-Stockton- Modesto: KSCA ** Channel 3 (Independent; KSCA 3 Reports) In a WMFL universe KSCA would already have a 4:00pm newscast since all WMFL owned TV stations have a 4:00pm newscast. In a WMFL universe this is what KSCA newscast schedule would more then likely look like
KSCA Reports Early Morning News – 4:00am-5:00am
    KSCA Reports Early News@5:00AM – 5:00am-6:00am
KSCA Reports Early News @6:00AM -6:00am-7:00am
    KSCA Reports Morning News -7:00am-9:00am
    KSCA Reports News @ 9:00AM -9:00am-10:00am
    KSCA Reports @ Noon -12:00n-1:00pm
    KSCA Reports @ 4 -4:00pm-5:00pm
    KSCA Reports @5 -5:00pm-6:00pm
    KSCA Reports @ 6 -6:00pm-7:00pm
    KSCA Reports @ -7:00pm-8:00pm
    KSCA Reports @ 10 -10:00pm-11:00pm
    KSCA Reports @ 11 -11:00pm-12:00m

    • Actually… it would be KSAC Channel 3 Reports and it would be the following…

KSAC Channel 3 Morning Reports (4:00-10:00am)
KSAC Channel 3 Midday Reports (12:00-1:00pm)
      KSAC Channel 3 Reports at 4:00/5:00/6:00/7:00 (4:00-8:00pm)
      KSAC Channel 3 Reports at 10:00/11:00 (10:00pm-12:00am)

I no longer update that website.
